"Will file nominations for MLC polls tomorrow," says DK Shivkumar

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 2 : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar interacted with local Congress leaders and workers in the state capital on Sunday and announced the filing of nominations for the legislative council elections scheduled in the state.

After the meeting with Congress leaders, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, "We will file nominations for MLC elections tomorrow. Our candidates will be nominated tomorrow. We have taken the signature of our MLAs."
The first of the two elections will be held on June 3 for six MLCs elected by teachers and graduates, while the second is on June 13 for 11 seats elected by members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).
The 75-member Legislative Council, including the chairman, has 32 BJP MLCs, 29 Congress MLCs, seven JD(S) MLCs and one Independent. Five seats are vacant owing to the resignation of MLCs Tejaswini Gowda and K P Nanjundi from BJP, Marithibbe Gowda from JD(S) and Jagadish Shettar from Congress, who rejoined BJP to contest the Lok Sabha elections.
For the June 3 election, the Congress will face the combined opposition of BJP and JD(S) who decided to continue their alliance post the Lok Sabha elections.
The exit polls on Saturday predicted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to improve its vote share in the southern states in the Lok Sabha elections.
In Andhra Pradesh, the exit polls predicted a clear majority for the BJP-led NDA in the state winning most of the Lok Sabha seats while predicting that the INDIA bloc is unlikely to open an account.
In the 2019 general elections, the YSCRP won 22 seats and Congress 3 seats and BJP drew a blank while in the 2014 elections, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won 15 seats, BJP won 2 and YSRCP got 8 seats.
The exit polls also predicted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is poised to retain power at the Centre with a thumping majority and register its third straight win in the Lok Sabha polls.
The exit polls predicted that the ruling BJP-led NDA is poised to improve its performance over its 2019 record when it won 352 seats. Two exit polls predicted the BJP also improving its numbers from the 303 seats it won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP-led NDA improved its numbers in 2019 Lok Sabha polls compared to the 2014 election. It is again poised for an upward trajectory, the exit polls predicted.
Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases from April 19. Votes will be counted on June 4.
The exit poll outcome was declared after the conclusion of polling for the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.
