Amritsar (Punjab) [India], April 15 : A day after the Congress named him as its candidate from the Jalandhar (reserved) parliamentary constituency, former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Monday said that he will go to the public as 'Sudama' and urge the people of the Doaba region to take care of him like 'Lord Krishna'.
Speaking to the media, Channi said that he had served the people of the Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency and brought "unprecedented" development in that area.
"The Congress party has given me the opportunity to serve from Jalandhar... I will go to Jalandhar as a servant. I will go there as 'Sudama' and I request the people of Jalandhar to look after me as Lord Krishna," he said.
Channi on Monday offered prayers at the Golden Temple.
He was accompanied by party MLA Pargat Singh and other party leaders.
Channi had been an MLA from the Chamkaur Sahib constituency in 2007, 2012 and 2017. He had unsuccessfully contested the Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur seats in the 2022 Punjab assembly polls.
