Bharuch (Gujarat) [India], November 18 : A day after he was named the party's in-charge for Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman Diu, BJP MLA Purnesh Modi on Saturday said that he will make efforts to make the party candidates win by maximum votes in the elections.
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the new responsibility assigned to him.
A sitting MLA from the Surat (West) in Gujarat, Purnesh Modi had filed a criminal defamation suit against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 'Modi' surname remark.
A Surat court later convicted and sentenced Rahul Gandhi in the case which resulted in his disqualification as Lok Sabha MP.
The Congress leader challenged his conviction at the Supreme Court, which stayed the Surat court ruling and his membership of the lower House of Parliament was eventually restored.
"Be it state assembly elections or Lok Sabha elections, it is imperative to work at the grassroots. I would like to thank PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and party chief JP Nadda (for the responsibility)," Purnesh Modi said.
"Our poll strategy would be to ensure that every BJP candidate gets maximum number of votes. The party will organise programmes and reach out to people," the BJP MLA said.
Purnesh Modi filed a criminal defamation case in 2019 against Rahul Gandhi.
