Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], October 25 : Amid war of words between the Congress and the BJP ahead of the Karnataka by-polls, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that their party will win all three seats
Shivakumar asserted that the Congress government has done well in the state.
"We have confidence that we will win the three seats. The Congress government has done well," he said.
The Congress party has released its list of candidates for the state assembly by-elections in Karnataka, selecting E Annapurna for the Sandur (ST) seat and CP Yogeshwara for Channapatna.
Earlier on October 24, Congress candidate CP Yogeshwara filed his nomination for the Channapatna by-poll in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.
CP Yogeshwara is a five-time former MLA from Channapatna; the seat was vacated by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy after he won the Lok Sabha polls.
Former BJP leader CP Yogeshwar on Wednesday joined the Congress party in the presence of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
The JDS will be fielding a candidate from the seat on behalf of the NDA, which forced Yogeshwar to seek refuge in the Congress.
The Channapattnna seat is seen as a big fight between the states' two most powerful Vokkaliga leaders, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
The NDA has fielded Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil Kumaraswamy as its candidate on Channapattnna seat.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday approved the candidature of Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan as the Congress candidate from the Shiggaon Constituency for the upcoming Legislative Assembly bypolls in Karnataka.
Congress' Pathan will be in electoral fray against BJP's Bharat Bommai, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP Lok Sabha MP Basavaraj Bommai.
The bypolls in these three seats are taking place following the resignation of HD Kumaraswamy from Channapatna, Basavaraj Bommai from Shiggaon, and Tukaram from Sandur after they won in the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.
The by-polls in Karnataka are set to take place on November 13, along with 47 assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The counting of votes will take place on November 23.
