"You stood with my brother when whole world was turning its back against him": Priyanka Gandhi reaches out to people of Wayanad

Wayanad (Kerala) [India], October 23 : Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday reached out to the people of the Wayand and noted that they stood with her brother at a time when the whole world was turning its back against him.
The remarks came in the context of Rahul Gandhi's decision to vacate the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.
Priyanka Gandhi who is making her electoral debut promised the people of Wayanad that she would only strengthen the bond between them and her brother.
She stated that truth and non-violence pushed her brother to undertake the Bharat Jodo Yatra for the sake of the love and unity of the country.
"These values (truth and non-violence) moved my brother to walk 8000 km across India for love and unity... He could not have done that without your support... You stood with my brother when the whole world was turning its back against him... You gave him your strength and courage to keep fighting... My whole family will always remain indebted and grateful to you... I know he had to leave you and I promise that I will only strengthen the bond between you and him...," Priyanka Gandhi said while addressing a rally of party leaders and party workers in Wayanad.
Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi were also present at the rally.
She added, "He has explained to me the large issues you are facing... My brother has explained to me the struggles you face. I want to come to your house and understand straight from you what your issues are and how we can tackle them..."
Priyanka Gandhi also expressed her gratitude to the Congress Chief MallikarjunK Kharge for approving her candidature for the Wayanad by-poll
"It is a very different feeling. I am deeply grateful to the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji for giving me this privilege of becoming the UDF candidate from Wayanad and my family for supporting me and allowing me to be the candidate for the Wayanad, "
"It is my honour to represent you if you give me a chance," she added.
Reflecting on her political journey, she said, "It has been 35 years that I have been campaigning for different elections. This is the first time I am campaigning for your support for myself..."
She also referred to her recent visit to the Chooralmala area here along with her brother, Rahul Gandhi.
"I saw the devastation with my own eyes. I saw the children who had lost their whole families. I met mothers who had lost their children. I met people whose entire life has been devastated by the landslide, " Priyanka Gandhi said.
The by-poll in Wayanad is scheduled to be held on November 13.
