YS Sharmila accuses Centre of not giving funds to Andhra Pradesh for flood control

Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 24 : Congress Andhra Pradesh chief YS Sharmila hit out at the BJP-led central government on Wednesday, alleging that it did not allocate additional funds for flood control and rehabilitation in the state.
"It looks like the Modi government does not consider Andhra Pradesh to be a part of India. While States like Bihar, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh received additional funds for flood control and rehabilitation; Andhra Pradesh, the State where the NDA is in power, received no relief for the woes people are facing here due to flooding," Sharmila told reporters here.
"This clearly indicates PM Modi has no love towards the people of this state, and possibly thinks AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will not leave NDA even if no relief is provided. Congress is the only party in AP that will stand by the people in all weathers," added Y S Sharmila Reddy.
To draw the central government's attention to the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh, she walked into waist-deep floodwaters at Nandamur village in West Godavari district. Congress party leaders and cadres were with her during the visit to the village.
She interacted with villagers whose homes got inundated due to the flood waters.
The recent heavy rain in coastal Andhra Pradesh left four people dead (two each from ASR and East Godavari districts) and affected 259 villages in the five districts of East Godavari, Eluru, Konaseema, NTR, and Alluri Sitaram Raju, as per the flood situation report prepared by the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) on July 22 (Monday).
