2015 as Foreign Secretary with Sushma Swaraj, 2024 as EAM: Dr S Jaishankar’s two Pakistan visits

New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): In a historic visit, India’s EAM Dr S Jaishankar on Oct 15 arrived in Pakistan for SCO Summit 2024. As he landed on Pakistani soil, EAM Jaishankar became the first EAM to visit neighbouring nation in the last 9 years. Notably, this was the second instance when Dr S Jaishankar visited Pakistan on an official visit. Back in 2015, Jaishankar visited Pakistan with then External Affairs Minister and India’s veteran Sushma Swaraj. This time, Jaishankar got a red carpet welcome as India’s External Affairs Minister in Pakistan. The ongoing visit highlights S Jaishankar’s diplomatic journey and elevation from IFS officer to Minister in Modi cabinet. During his visit, Jaishankar met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as latter hosted a dinner for SCO Leaders. The 23rd SCO CHG kicked off on Wednesday in Islamabad, with top-notch security measures in place. EAM Jaishankar addressed SCO Head of Govt meet in Islamabad and flagged concern over terrorism.
