480 Made in India Nagastra-1 Loitering Munitions delivered to Indian Army for precision strikes

New Delhi, December 03 (ANI): The Indian Army has received 480 loitering munitions made by a Nagpur-based defence firm with over 75% Indigenous content. The first Indigenous Loiter Munition, Nagastra-1, developed by Solar Industries under emergency procurement powers. The Nagastra-1 loitering munition has more than 75% Indigenous content and was designed and developed by Solar Industries. The system is man-portable, lightweight, and intended for precision strike capabilities by Army troops. Solar Industries working on advanced versions of munition, named Nagastra-2, Nagastra-3, with extended performance, warhead-carrying capabilities. It has submitted proposals to the defence forces for the Design & Development of Medium Altitude Long Endurance drones. Other Indian firms are also moving towards developing MALE drones under the defence ministry’s IDDM category. The forces aim to have an Indigenous MALE programme to develop a drone industry capable of producing high-performance drones at lower costs. The Indian Army is looking to acquire 97 Medium Altitude Long Endurance drones to meet its surveillance needs. The focus on Indigenous MALE drone development reflects the push for self-reliance in defence technology in India
