8th Arctic 2023 International Conference
Mar 20, 2023
Moscow (Russia), March 20 (ANI/ TV BRICS): Intensive and sustainable development of the north is the main theme of the eighth "Arctic 2023" International Conference. The discussion of the present and future of this region attracts more and more attention each year. At the forum platforms representatives of government and business, academics and practitioners from various backgrounds propose new solutions to arctic issues and talk about the development of initiatives that are already implemented. Companies which have been granted resident status in the special economic regimes of the north are actively investing money in their projects. Already today, over 600 of them are being implemented in the Arctic, and the investment amount is estimated at hundreds of billions of roubles. As Gajimagomed Guseynov emphasised, in the future this figure will grow to 1.5 trillion. Along with economic development conference participants also focused their attention on issues of climatic well-being of the north. As part of Russia's chairmanship of the Arctic council, the country has proposed a number of advanced projects for implementation in the region. Many of them, such as the Snezhinka autonomous complex based on renewable energy sources, attracted the interest of observer countries of the organisation. BRICS scientists not only study the Arctic zone side by side but also create consortia. Today one of them works on the basis of the North-eastern Federal University. Sustainable development of the Arctic region is a multifaceted process, say the conference participants. To move in the right direction, it is necessary to maintain an ideal balance, to support socio-economic development, but not forget about scientific and environmental development.
