AAI’s ‘AVSAR’ scheme providing marketing platform to local artisans

Udaipur(Rajasthan) / Chennai (Tamil Nadu), May 31 (ANI): Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region or AVSAR is a scheme launched by the Airports Authority of India to provide a marketing platform to local artisans.At Maharana Pratap Airport in Udaipur, a self-help group operated by women artisans are showcasing and marketing their homemade local products. Space at the AAI run airports is allotted to the self- help groups, turn on turn basis, for a duration of 15 days. Different SHGs groups are showcasing local artefacts and traditional craft, with contemporary design to the air travellers. The AVSAR Initiative is introducing the heritage and ethos of the place to the travellers. At Chennai Airport, space has been allotted for women’s "Mullai Tailoring self-help group" which sells products like jute bags, handloom sarees, travel bags and hand purses. The initiative to strengthen SHGs by allotting space at Airports will provide huge visibility to these small groups and prepare them to promote their products to the wider spectrum, reaching out to the larger population.
