Srinagar, September 22, (ANI): Chess has become increasingly popular among sports-loving youth in the Kashmir Valley, with a surge in participation in various tournaments. The ongoing international chess championship, organized by the Kashmir Chess Club and Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association, is currently taking place in two designated rooms at the Sheri Kashmir Indoor Stadium. In recent years, indoor sports such as martial arts, kickboxing, Wushu, badminton, carom, and chess have garnered significant interest among young people. This growing enthusiasm has prompted sports authorities and non-governmental organizations to host numerous championships aimed at encouraging youth to engage in this strategic game. The championship serves not only to promote chess but also to provide a platform for talented individuals in the valley to showcase their skills and potentially secure a brighter future in sports. The open championship has attracted participants from various age groups, including young children, teenagers, college students, outside players, and senior citizens, all eager to compete.
