Jan 17, 2023

The UNSC listed Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist on Jan 16. Makki has been sanctioned under UNSC’s ISIL (Da'esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee. Abdul Makki designated as a global terrorist after China finally relented and Indian diplomatic pressure prevailed. Earlier, China repeatedly blocked India’s proposal to list the LeT leader as a global terrorist. In June 2022, India slammed China for blocking India-US joint proposal to designate Makki as a global terrorist. Makki is the brother-in-law of LeT Chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed. He has been involved in recruiting, radicalising youth, planning attacks in India, especially in J&K.
