Delhi skies light up with firecrackers on Diwali despite Supreme Court ban
Nov 13, 2023
New Delhi, November 13 (ANI): As the nation celebrated Diwali on November 12, people lit ‘diyas’, and burst firecrackers to celebrate the festival. Despite a ban on fireworks in Delhi owing to worsening air quality, residents across the city indulged in bursting firecrackers. Meanwhile, a thick layer of smog engulfed the national capital on Nov 13 after people burst crackers on Diwali night. Air quality across Delhi remained in the ‘Poor’ category as per the Central Pollution Control Board. Notably, SC’s ban on firecrackers rarely appeared to be enforced in Delhi as residents flouted the ban completely. Notably, people also complained about the deteriorated air quality because of bursting of firecrackers. Post-Diwali the residue of firecrackers also lingered across streets in Delhi.
