Dredging operation at old navigation channels in Dal Lake in Srinagar

Jan 04, 2023

Srinagar, Jan 04 (ANI): Jammu & Kashmir Lake Conservation and Management Authority started a dredging operation of old navigation channels at Dal Lake in Srinagar. The purpose of the operation was to preserve the world-famous Dal lake and attract tourists on large scale. Engineers along with other officials are monitoring this operation to complete the work at the proper time. For the last more than two decades, these navigation channels have been encroached on by people, which resulted in back-side areas of Dal lake including Rainawari, Zojilankar being affected badly. So that’s why conservation authority is fully geared up to open these navigation channels to return the glory of the overall lake. Because decades back, tourists always preferred to visit the interior areas of the lake with the aim to see the cultural and traditional lifestyle of dwellers. Normally, tourists visit Kashmir to spend their time in houseboats and enjoy Shikara ride. But culture and heritage-loving people always prefer to visit old areas of Srinagar city. During peak season, locals like houseboat owners, boatmen, taxi operators, vendors, and photographers also earn their livelihood from tourism. So, these types of initiatives are important to restore the glory of Dal Lake and preserve it for future generations.
