With eye on China and Pakistan, India gets its 5th Kalvari class submarine ‘INS Vagir’

Mumbai Jan 23 (ANI): The Indian Navy commissioned its fifth Kalvari class submarine INS ‘Vagir’ on January 23. Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar graced the induction ceremony as the Chief Guest. These submarines are being built in India under project-75 by MDL group in collaboration with France’s M/s Naval Group. INS ‘Vagir’ commenced sea trials on Feb 01, 2022 and has completed all major trials in shortest time. At a time when China has been stepping up its presence in the Indian Ocean region. The commissioning of ‘Vagir’ will bolster the Indian Navy's combat capability. The submarine is designed to operate in all theatres of operation, showcasing interoperability with other components of the Indian Navy. It can launch attacks with both torpedoes and tube-launched anti-ship missiles. INS Vagir was first commissioned on Nov 1, 1973 and served the Navy for over 3 decades. It conducted numerous operations before getting decommissioned in 2001
