New Delhi, December 03 (ANI): On the eve of Navy Day, Admiral R Hari Kumar informed that the Indian Navy has inducted women sailors for the first time. He was interacting with media persons in New Delhi on December 03. “First batch of Agniveers already reported, about 3,000 Agniveers have joined, out of whom about 341 are women. Come next year, we are looking at women officers being inducted across all branches and not just the 7-8 branches they're restricted to as of today,” said Admiral R Hari Kumar.“Unveiling of a new Naval ensign was in line with the government policy of doing away or shedding vestiges of colonial symbols & practices. So, we've unveiled the new ensign. The new design was by one of our sailors from a ship, we just worked upon and improved and promulgated,” he added. Navy Day will be celebrated in Visakhapatnam on December 04.
