Gilgit Baltistan: Poor cut off from even disaster relief
Feb 14, 2023
Darel, Gilgit Baltistan, 14 February, 2023: - Several Non-Governmental Organizations responded quickly to the crisis that cropped up in the immediate aftermath of the catastrophic floods in Pakistan including the illegally occupied Gilgit Baltistan. Massive campaigns were organized to assist those who were affected by the floods. However, the people of Gilgit Baltistan, like other spheres of public discourse were left deprived and discriminated against in this situation too. Locals said while most of the relief fund and supplies were seized by either the already wealthy class of the region or those enjoying some political clout, the poor were left to suffer. They accused even the local representatives of working closely with the unscrupulous and corrupt Pakistani authorities.
