Jan 11, 2025

In a landmark move to empower young girls through education, the Gujarat government has launched two ambitious scholarship schemes—Namo Lakshmi and Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana. These initiatives aim to eliminate financial barriers that prevent girls across the state from accessing quality education and realizing their full potential. Announced in the 2024-25 state budget for the education sector, the Namo Lakshmi Scheme provides financial assistance of ₹50,000 over four years to girls from Class 9 to Class 12. Meanwhile, the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Scheme offers ₹25,000 over two years to girls studying in the science stream in Classes 11 and 12. The funds are directly transferred to the mother’s account to ensure expenses like tuition fees, books, uniforms, and other essentials are adequately covered. According to an official, around 38,000 students have already benefited from the schemes in Ahmedabad district alone. By removing financial barriers and creating opportunities for academic and personal growth, these initiatives are paving the way for a brighter and more empowered generation of young women in the state.
