Dec 09, 2022
Kathua (J&K), December 09 (ANI): The Handloom Development Department of Kathua organised the valley’s first-ever district-level seven-day Handloom Expo. The expo was sponsored by the Handloom Development Commissioner (HL) and the Ministry of Textiles under NHDP. The expo was conducted to promote local products made by various private societies. With the theme ‘My Handloom My Pride’, the expo showcased the exquisite art and craft of the Kathua district. The expo gave the opportunity to artisans, weavers and Cooperative societies a suitable marketing platform to promote their handmade products. People were thronging in every stall to buy handmade products directly from the makers. It also allowed the tourists as well as locals to get a glimpse of the rich arts and crafts of Kathua. Varieties of Basohli Pashmina shawls, woollen shawls, mufflers, coats, blankets, and Cashmilon Shawls were the main attraction of the expo. 25 handloom groups got the opportunity to display their products at different stalls at the expo. The local artisans showed pleasure in such exhibitions to sell their products and demanded to arrange them at various locations.
