Houseboat Festival at Srinagar’s Dal Lake mesmerises tourists

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 9 (ANI): To promote tourism in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Government organised a two-day Houseboat Festival on December 7-8 at the world famous Dal Lake in Srinagar. The government organised the festival at Dal Lake to attract more visitors and promote overall tourism, as it is famous across the world. Every year, lakhs of tourists visit Kashmir to enjoy the mesmerising beauty of the valley. The main highlights of the two-day festival are the display of live music and the Art Gallery besides showcasing varied culinary and cuisine specialties. Traditional folk music, a floating stage and water screen on Dal Lake’s waters, also formed part of the same. Dal Lake is one of the heritage water bodies of the valley and houseboats are considered the crown of it. Every year, almost thousands of tourists visit and stay at this unique infrastructure and make their trips memorable. Majority of the Shikaras and houseboats in the region were illuminated by the department of tourism, to make this festival more colorful. The festival consisted of local music, food, art, and culture besides showcasing and emphasising the heritage value of houseboats. This is organised after loads of requests and demands from locals for this type of beautiful festival. Also, this should be continued in future to promote the tourism sector and attract more visitors towards Kashmir, the attendees requested.
