ICMR-VCRC develops bacteria-infected mosquitoes to control vector-borne diseases

Puducherry July 06 (ANI): The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Vector Control Research Centre (VCRC) have created two mosquito colonies infected with a bacterium that aims to curb vector-borne diseases. These mosquitoes have been found fit for replacing both dengue and chikungunya viruses. Speaking about the development, ICMR-VCRC Director, Dr Ashwani Kumar said, “There is a good potential in the technology. The study has been completed now but the government approvals are still pending.”
