India to launch database which will record all crimes against UN peacekeepers: EAM Jaishankar at Trusteeship Council

New York (US), December 16 (ANI): During the launch of ‘Group of Friends to promote Accountability for Crimes Against Peacekeepers' at Trusteeship Council in New York, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on December 16 said that India would launch a database which will record all crimes against UN peacekeepers. S Jaishankar said, “India has facilitated the launch of a database which will record all crimes against UN peacekeepers. It'll soon be ready for launch as well.” “Upholding crimes against UN peacekeepers is a multi-stakeholder task. It is also a fact that the host states don't have the political will or necessary capability to ensure such accountability when crimes are committed against peacekeepers,” said S Jaishankar. “UN peacekeeping is more challenging than ever before. It's done under ambiguous situations and in hostile zones. Involvement of armed groups, terrorists and transnational organized crime have adversely impacted peacekeeping operation,” he said. “In the last 3 years, 68 peacekeepers belonging to 20 countries lost their lives for the cause of peace. 177 Indian peacekeepers have laid down their lives,” he added.
