Dec 03, 2022
New Delhi, Dec 03 (ANI): While addressing a press conference, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar on December 03 said that the Indian Navy would be self-reliant by the year 2047.“INS Vikrant, the first indigenous aircraft carrier, was commissioned at Kochi by our Prime Minister. It’s been a landmark event and signifies persistent efforts of generations of naval leadership, designers, planners, shipyard workers, industry and other supporting agencies and personnel. Commissioning of INS Vikrant is a landmark event for the nation and Navy and it’s indeed a torch-bearer of ‘Atmanirbharta’. There are very few countries that have the capability to make an aircraft carrier and we now form one of the elite or select band,” said Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar. He also added, “It inspires self-confidence among us and it’s a shining symbol of our indigenous capability. It has contributed to enhancing the stature of the nation in the world. I’m sure Vikrant will proudly fly the Tiranga across the wide reaches of Indo-Pacific in years to come. Recent global events amply underscore that we can’t remain dependent on others for our own security requirements. Government has given us very clear guidelines on ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and one of Navy’s commitments to top leadership is that we’ll become ‘Aatmanirbhar Navy’ by 2047.”
