India’s sixth Scorpene Class Submarine INS ‘Vaghsheer’ begins its first sea trials

In a significant milestone, final Submarine of Kalvari Class Made in India has started its maiden sea trials. Indian Navy’s 6th Kalvari Class Submarine INS ‘Vaghsheer’ was launched on April 20, 2022. Last submarine under ‘Project 75’ was launched from Kanhoji Angre Wet Basin of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. Lethal submarine will be commissioned into the Indian Navy in 2024 after the completion of sea trials. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders has already delivered 3 Submarines under Project–75 in just 24 months. Commencement of sea trials of INS ‘Vaghsheer’ is a major boost towards ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in Defence. INS ‘Vaghsheer’ will undergo intense sea trials which includes, propulsion systems, weapons and sensors. Earlier, the Indian Navy had commissioned its fifth Kalvari Class Submarine, INS ‘Vagir’ in January 23. INS ‘Vagir’ commenced sea trials on Feb 01, 2022, and has completed all major trials in a short span of time. It was first commissioned on Nov 1, 1973, and had served the Indian Navy for over 3 decades. INS ‘Vagir’ conducted numerous operations in the Indian Ocean before getting decommissioned in 2001.
