J-K: NGO starts first suicide prevention helpline ‘Zindagi’ in Srinagar

Srinagar (J&K), June 20 (ANI): With the Pandemic shutting and affecting the mental health of the people, the number of suicide cases have drastically increased in the last 2 and half years across the world. With that being clear, the Valley is no different in this case. The youth in Jammu and Kashmir have been affected due to the effects of COVID-19, which has resulted in several cases of depression and suicide. Keeping that in mind, an NGO, SRO Kashmir, along with the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences Kashmir has issued the first suicide prevention helpline named ‘Zindagi’. The helpline number 18002701008, works daily from 6 pm to 11 pm and can play a potential role in curbing the number of suicide cases. At present, the helpline is backed by a team of 14 psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. To lessen the language barriers, the helpline calls will also be available in English, Urdu, and Kashmiri. The expert doctors working with the NGO will provide support through counselling the patients. Psychological support will also be provided to the patients.
