J&K: Farmers in Udhampur’s Kossar Panchayat embrace fish farming for higher returns

Udhampur (J&K), November 05 (ANI): With an aim to attract the unemployed educated youth who live in far-flung and remotest corner of the Jammu and Kashmir Union territory towards establishing their own units the Central Government introduced a scheme called Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. Jammu and Kashmir Fisheries Department motivated the youth of the district Udhampur to establish their own Trout fish unit and earn their livelihood.In this regard, farmers of Kossar Panchayat in Block Chenani of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur District have turned their attention from traditional crops to fish farming. Tempted by the promise of high returns, these resilient farmers have switched gears, and it's paying off.Earlier Farmers in Kashmir adopted trout farming due to the conducive environment in the valley. Trout needs running water and temperatures ranging between 0 and 20 degrees Celsius to thrive but now in Chenani Block of Udhampur District farmers adopted Trout fish farming due to the environment suitable for this. As per reports, there are 9-10 farmers from Chenani Block who have adopted trout fish farming.
