J&K: Masrat Jan trying hard to revive traditional Paper Mache Art

Srinagar, Jan 27 (ANI): Traditional way of Kashmiri Art Paper Mache is on a verge of decline because of the new technologies and manufacturing techniques. But Masrat Jan, a 50-year-old woman, by breaking the gender stereotype is trying hard to keep this traditional way of art alive. She developed an interest in this art during her teenage years. She has also earned a name by winning several state awards in this male-dominated art. Masrat Jan got married to a family of Paper Mache artisans. Her husband is also active in this art. He also supported her a lot in pursuing her passion. Paper Mache Art involves making different shapes like vases, trays, boxes, and animal shapes by applying paper pulp over moulds, then drying those objects, polishing them and finally painting them intricately with multiple shades.
