Ganderbal (J&K), April 11 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Government organized the Resham Mela (Silk Mela) in the Mansbal district of J&K’s Ganderbal, aimed to boost cocoon production in the valley. For the promotion of the sericulture sector and to utilize the benefits of cocoons, the sericulture department has taken a wonderful step for cocoon growers, as this will educate them about the latest technologies and new schemes that growers can adopt to increase cocoon production and their income. The Sericulture Mela and awareness programme, organized on the banks of Asia’s largest ‘Wullar Lake’, witnessed a large number of both male and female participants. For the benefit of cocoon growers, some stalls were also installed by the Department of Sericulture, which displayed different types of products, pamphlets, and seeds. Growers who were coming from other far-flung areas demanded that such types of programmes should be continued in the future for the betterment of the sericulture sector as well as for growers. The sericulture sector holds its importance as it is one of the important wings of the Agriculture sector. Kashmiri cocoons play an important role in improving the quality of silk products with high demand in National as well as International markets.
