Kashmir University organises special competition to promote calligraphy

Srinagar (J&K), June 19 (ANI): Kashmir University organised special competitions at large scale for calligraphy lovers. The competitions aimed at reviving the rich medieval culture of the art in Kashmir and outside. Dean Students Welfare (DSW) of the university organised wonderful competitions at Gandhi Bhawan. The competitions witnessed a large participation by girls, although boys marked their presence. Known as ‘Khattati’ in Persian and ‘Khusnavisi’ in Urdu, the art has been popular especially in Islamic culture. Calligraphy is popular as an art even today in countries like Saudi, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tashkent and Kazakhstan.
