Kashmir welcomes migratory birds: Wetland authorities ensure comfortable stay with arrangements
Jan 23, 2025
Srinagar January 23, (ANI): Every year, the Kashmir Valley plays host to thousands of migratory birds escaping harsh winters in their native habitats. These guest birds, primarily from Siberia, China, Russia, and other cold countries, arrive in the valley's wetlands in November and stay until March or April. To ensure a comfortable stay for these feathered visitors, the Department of Wetlands has been actively providing food arrangements, particularly during the severe cold months. The wetland authorities have been stocking large quantities of paddy grains and other food items to supplement the birds' natural diet of water nuts, herbs, and insects. According to officials, the migratory birds face challenges in finding sufficient food during the harsh winter months, especially when the water bodies freeze over. To address this issue, the Department of Wetlands has been monitoring the birds' activities and providing food at specific locations, including Hokersar, Haigam, and Chhatlam.
