Kashmiris pray for peace on annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani

Srinagar (J&K) Nov 08 (ANI): Kashmiri Muslims prayed for peace and prosperity in the valley on the eve of the annual Sufi Saint Festival in Srinagar. The people of Kashmir valley celebrates the annual Urs or festival of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani with full of spirit and religious fervour. The shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani known as Dastigeer Sahib is located in Khanyar area of old Srinagar city and is very important as per religious and historical point of view. Kashmiri people have very good faith in Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani who is actually buried in Baghdad but his important belongings including relics are inside the shrine that authorities are showing once a year on annual Urs. Devotees from different parts of the valley paid their tributes to this famous saint. The areas around the shrine wore a festive look with many roadside vendors selling a whole lot of eatables and other items. Before the beginning of militancy and migration, the Pandit community also used to visit the shrine that was the live example of brotherhood of Kashmir people. Apart from being known as ‘Paradise on Earth’, Kashmir is also known as valley of Sufis and saints and different types of shrines which belong to different religions are here.
