Locals protest after four die due to bridge collapse in Gilgit Baltistan
May 10, 2022
Tangidas, Gilgit Baltistan, 10 May 2022: - A number of people gathered in Tangidas village of the illegally occupied Gilgit Baltistan to demonstrate against the government after four villagers died in an accident involving the collapse of a locally-built suspension bridge. They shouted slogans against the local as well as the federal government of Pakistan which they said had not done anything to improve the local infrastructure. Situated on the bank of a river, residents of Tangidas can access markets and other facilities only when they cross the river. And a poorly built, flimsy suspension bridge breaks time and again, resulting in grave injuries or deaths of locals. In the latest tragedy, the locals apprised that only two bodies out of the four that fell in the stream could be recovered and two others were presumed dead.
