Madras HC asks Centre to ban use of video app TikTok

New Delhi, Apr 04 (ANI): Considering Indonesia and Bangladesh government’s decision to ban TikTok and USA’s ‘Children Online Privacy Act’ to prevent children from becoming cyber victims, the Madras High Court today issued an interim direction to the Centre, to prohibit downloading of the application, saying it was “encouraging pornography”. The order also directs the media from telecasting videos made using the app. Reacting on it, Hailing Madras High Court’s decision, cyber expert Anuj Agarwal shared his views and said that TikTok and other social media platforms are good platforms to socialize but lot of people are misusing it to upload pornography materials and to spread fake news to create disturbance in the society. “The Centre has to follow it, there is no way they can avoid it, Centre should be doing it proactively” said Agarwal. TikTok mobile application allows users to create and share short videos with special effects. TikTok is a China-made app with million users in India.
