More “Kamikaze” drones are coming to Russia, Iran-Russia ties expand
Oct 19, 2022
New Delhi, Oct 19 (ANI): Iran has promised to provide Russia with surface-to-surface missiles. Tehran’s move is likely to infuriate the United States and other Western powers. Iran's First VP Md Mokhber and other officials visited Moscow for talks about the delivery of weapons. Russia has asked for more drones and ballistic missiles with improved accuracy, said Iranian diplomat. Moscow had specifically asked for surface-to-surface short-range Fateh 110 and Zolfaghar missiles. One of the drones Iran agreed to supply is the Shahed-136. It is a delta-winged weapon used as a "kamikaze" air-to-surface attack aircraft. It carries a small warhead that explodes on impact. US agrees that Iran supplying drones to Russia would violate a UNSC resolution. Ukraine has reported a spate of Russian attacks using Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in recent weeks.
