Moscow Polytech Develops Affordable Exoskeletons

Dec 24, 2022

Moscow (Russia), Dec 24, (ANI/TV BRICS): Exoskeletons are the future! Scientists at Moscow Polytechnic University are convinced after developing a new model of a mobile mechanism. The prototype exoskeleton is made of aluminium, fibreglass and plastic elements. They are made using additive technologies. This will make it easy to change the parts in the design, if necessary. And as a person grows, so will the frame of the device. The new model is also a measuring device. According to the scientists' idea, the device will determine the correct movement of a person's foot and gait, and then help in the correction of musculoskeletal system disorders. The exoskeleton reduces the strain on the joints and their resource is used up several times slower. In this device, mechanics, electronics and software work as a single complex. Each movement of the exoskeleton pilot is displayed on a special graph. In the future, the data collected will be analysed by doctors, who will work with the patient to create a correction programme. An equally important stage of the work is to make the exoskeleton convenient and accessible for children with various diseases. Engineers have dedicated 4 years to the development, and it is now in its final testing phase. The new exoskeleton is expected to hit the markets in 2024, and according to preliminary estimates, it will cost at least half as much as its existing counterparts.
