Protests erupt in Gilgit Baltistan as govt pays no heed to earthquake victims
Mar 29, 2022
Roundu, Gilgit Baltistan, 29 MARCH, 2022: - People across illegally occupied Gilgit Baltistan have come out on roads to protest against government’s inaction in facilitating the earthquake victims in Rondu valley. Once hit by a massive earthquake a few weeks back in December, the valley was struck again by similar disaster on March 16. More than 200 houses were destroyed and numerous people were injured. Apart from this, the Skardu-Gilgit road that connects Rondu to the rest of the region got blocked due to landslides. Several irrigation channels also got destroyed that came up as a huge blow to the locals who are mostly associated with agriculture for their livelihood. While denouncing the government for its apathetic attitude at a press conference, a local leader said that even after repeated pleas, government hasn’t addressed their issues yet.
