Rescue operation underway at Vizianagaram train accident site

Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh), Oct 30 (ANI): The train collision occurred in Vizianagaram district on the Howrah-Chennai railway line on Oct 29, resulted in a tragic loss of life and multiple injuries. At least 6 individuals have lost their lives, and 18 people have been injured in the incident. The collision took place when the Palasa Passenger train struck the Rayagada Passenger from behind at Kankatapalli, leading to the derailment of three coaches. NDRF, SDRF officials and police are on spot and the rescue operation is underway. Officials from the East Coast Railway swiftly responded to the scene. “...We are presently focusing on the rescue operation...We are shifting the injured to the nearest hospital. We have also shared the helpline numbers...The numbers are awaited...,” East Coast Railway CPRO Biswajit Sahu told ANI. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed that all passengers have been shifted from the spot. “PM Modi has reviewed the situation. Spoke to the CM of Andhra Pradesh, state government and railway teams are working in close coordination,” he posted on X. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and took stock of the situation. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Railway has issued helpline numbers in response to the incident
