Aug 22, 2023
Muzaffarabad, PoK, 22 August 2023: - Protests erupted in Pakistan occupied Kashmir as residents and civil society members took to the streets to protest against the alarming surge in inflation that has severely impacted their daily lives. Demonstrators directed their ire at both the regional and federal government and accused them of deliberately neglecting the people of PoK and exacerbating their economic woes. The people in the region are particularly frustrated by Islamabad’s discriminatory treatment. Working at the instruction of Islamabad, the puppet government of PoK has gradually withdrawn subsidies and essential support from the region. The rising prices of basic commodities, including flour, vegetables, and oil, have placed an immense burden on the already struggling populace. They also said that the leader and authorities were giving hikes in salaries and perks at the cost of basic well-being of the residents.
