Russia‘s growing Call for Salmon Conservation

Jul 31, 2022

Russia (Moscow)/ (Kola Peninsula), July 31, 2022, (ANI/ TV BRICS): The palette of the Kola Peninsula mixes the colours of the tundra and northern lights, mountains, valleys and numerous rivers. The amazing place on the shores of the Arctic Ocean equally attracts tourists and... Atlantic salmon. This whole large family is currently experiencing tough times. Salmon populations are declining all over the world. The Atlantic salmon in particular has sad statistics. This species is practically on the brink of extinction. Based on scientific research, they did introduce licensed fishing. It was then that the idea of developing fishing tourism was born. The first fishing camps on the Kola Peninsula appeared in the early 1990s on the Ponoy River. This is a small lure. It imitates an insect or a shrimp. With this tackle a good fly fisherman can catch up to 20-30 fish per day. But he releases every single fish back into the river. The association actively supports this recreational fishing principle. A simple set of rules: protect nature, don't litter, and let the fish go, give them a chance to reproduce. Kola Peninsula is the last place on earth where Atlantic salmon has survived in absolutely pristine conditions.
