Study: New tuft cell development for treating lung cancer
Jun 23, 2022
New Delhi, June 23 (ANI): Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) researchers led by Professor Christopher Vakoc identified a brand-new subtype of small cell lung cancer in 2018. The Vakoc team learned how tufted cells arise within the body and how inhibiting their growth may be a novel strategy for treating this fatal lung cancer. Tufted cells are the first cells to develop into cancer. Cluster cell lung cancer has a very dismal prognosis. Tuft cells aid in the body's defence against infections. Tuft cells, so named because of their bristly tuft, have taste receptors that can detect intruders. It is anticipated that impeding tuft cell growth in the body will have minimal side effects.
