Nov 06, 2024
New Delhi, November 06 (ANI): On US Elections 2024 results, Former Ambassador of India to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu said, "In democracy, both in India and the US, elections are a very important event. So, this was also an exercise of democracy. It appears from the figures that are coming in, I don't want to jump the gun, it is for the electoral authorities to declare in the US. But US political system is more focussed on what is their electoral college. There were 7 critical states...the bigger states balance each other...So, in those 7, it quite clear that 4 will go to President Trump & other 3 could also. So, it is pretty fair to come to a judgement that as of now, the situation looks very favourable to President Trump's coming back. Why is it historic? For a candidate who was a President, then lost and now is coming back - that itself is history. Within that, this campaign had 2 assassination attempts, you saw it going up and down. It was President Trump with President Biden in the beginning, and then after the assassination there was a wave this side. Then VP Kamala Harris came on board...It is as Americans always love saying, 'rebound'. So, he is in a sense, comeback kid..."On another term of Donald Trump and India-US relations, former Ambassador of India to the US and BJP leader, Taranjit Singh Sandhu says, "...There is a long-term and short-term (perspective). In the long term, the US-India relationship is steady. It has come to, what I often call, from relationship to partnership. There are bases for that. In the last 10 years, you have seen that uphill movement. If you look at President Trump's earlier term, Quad and a number of other initiatives - so in long term, this relationship will continue to march on and will deepen. There are 5 clear areas in that, one is strategic, in healthcare - even in President Trump's time, we cooperated in healthcare...Then there is IT, digital, startup and the entire iCET. Then there is the energy relationship...There is also a deep relationship in education and knowledge partnership for years...That is why this relationship will remain steady and only deepen more. In the immediate...there would be certain issues either way, but as they say, if you don't have challenges where will the opportunities come..."
