Grilling the TikTok CEO over several countries banning the app’s installation on devices of the government employees, Lesko asked Chew to answer over the allegations as he testified during a Congressional hearing. “India banned the use of TikTok in 2020. New Zealand banned the installation of TikTok on devices connected to the Parliamentary network, Canada banned it on government devices,” Lesko said. Shou Zi Chew on the other hand however, called the allegations theoretical, hypothetical and said that they lack evidences. He further welcomed a discussion over the issue saying that he is ‘waiting to see some evidences’. Chinese app TikTok has been under a lot of heat in several countries over its user data security issues. India also banned the app in 2020 over national security concerns.
