Tonnes of Hilsa fish imported from Bangladesh; First since 2012

Petrapole-Benapole Border, September 27 (ANI): Around 45-50 tonnes of Hilsa arrived in West Bengal on September 27. Bangladesh's interim Govt is exporting 2,420 tonnes of Hilsa fish to India. The entire quantity of 2,420 tonnes is expected to reach India by October 12. 1 kg of Hilsa fish is being sold at a wholesale rate of Rs 1,400 to 1,600 per kg. Approximately 50 tonnes of Hilsa fish arrived at the fish market in Howrah. A special breed of Hilsa fish from Bangladesh is considered the best in terms of taste. Fish arrived in India from B’desh's Padma River crossing the Petrapole-Benapole border. Hilsa fish was eventually distributed to various retail markets in the eastern metropolis. Bangladesh Government banned the export of Hilsa fish in July 2012. However, the Government allowed special export permissions to India since 2019.
