Hyderabad, December 23 (ANI): Fighting all odds, Hyderabad-based girl pursued her dream to play cricket and made it to the Hyderabad senior women's team. Daughter of Veeresh and Bhagya, the 19-year-old Mamatha Madiwala, got inspired from the struggle they have faced. Veeresh, a dhobi and Bhagya, who works as maid, never let their poverty to be an obstacle in the way of Mamatha’s career. Mamata, who has a strong passion for cricket, with her determination and hard work made her mark in the senior cricket team. She started playing cricket on the roads. After seeing her playing cricket, Veeresh encouraged her to join academy. Her skills made her as a second wicket keeper in the Under 16 tour. She continued her journey as a wicketkeeper and batsman. Later she was selected for the Under 19, NCA, Under 19 challenger’s trophy, and seniors T20 tour. As Mamatha was short in stature, former international and coach Nooshin Al Khadeer suggested her to become a wicketkeeper. Since then, she is working on her wicket keeping skills. "The last match I played was the senior's T20. I was very good in all the matches wicket keeping. I have the highest stumpings. I consider the senior T20 against Maharashtra last year as my best game. I took a catch of Smriti Mandhana when I was diving towards the first slip and she took my catch as she was diving from mid-off to cover. It was a memorable moment,” said excited Mamatha.
