Oct 06, 2023
Srinagar, Oct 06 (ANI): A week-long Geographical Indication (GI) Mahotsav was organised in Srinagar. It was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir government in collaboration with various arts and crafts organisations. It aimed to promote and support local and outsider artisans and craftsmen and provided them with a platform to exhibit and sell their products. Visitors explored a wide range of authentic Kashmiri handicrafts including Pashmina shawls, carpets, wooden artifacts, papier mache products, saffron, and traditional Kashmiri cuisine. A live demonstration was also held by artisans to make the visitors witness the intricate processes involved in crafting these products. It not only helps in promoting local crafts but also boosts tourism in the region. It also helps to provide a unique shopping experience allowing people to directly interact with the artisans and learn about the cultural significance behind each product.
