India Maritime Week 2025 concludes on high note: VOC Port showcases India’s green maritime vision

SUPER: Mumbai (India) India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai concluded on a high note on Friday, celebrating India’s growing maritime strength and commitment to sustainability. During the event, the V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC Port), Tuticorin, drew wide acclaim for its ‘Global Connect’ pavilion focused on green shipping and innovation. On the Green Maritime Day, VOC Port took centre stage by championing renewable energy and the development of green shipping corridors. Chairman Susanta Kumar Purohit felicitated Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and reaffirmed the Port’s unwavering commitment to driving a sustainable maritime future. In recognition of its pioneering initiatives in decarbonisation and sustainable port operations, VOC Port was honoured with the prestigious ‘Green Visionary Award’. The VOC Port also signed MoUs worth over ₹1 lakh crore with leading partners in the fields of green energy, shipbuilding, and digital transformation. These strategic collaborations aim to accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen, green fuels, and AI-driven port operations, positioning VOC Port as a frontrunner in India’s transition toward a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient maritime sector. Susanta Kumar Purohit, Chairman, VOC Port Authority, Tuticorin, said “we are a pioneer in green initiatives and we are the first port to produce green hydrogen. The green hydrogen plant was dedicated by our Honourable Union Minister during his last visit on the day of VOC’s birthday on September 5. With that, we became the first port to produce green hydrogen. Not only are we producing green hydrogen, but we are also utilizing it for lighting as well as for charging electric vehicles....
